2023 Summer Camps

Registration for Friends of the North Fork camps will be done in conjunction with Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation. Registration will open May 1st.

Camps are made possible with the support of Lord Fairfax Soil and Water Conservation District.

Shenandoah River Players Summer Camp

When: June 12-14, 2023; Time: 9am to 3pm (field trip days may be longer)

Who: ages 6 – 8

Where: Strasburg High School

Cost: $60/participant

Description: 

This summer environmental education day camp is offered by Friends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River for ages 6 – 8. It is designed to instill a love of nature and outdoor play while teaching stewardship and science concepts. Campers will spend time outdoors learning about plants and animals, soils and rocks, and water through place-based education and outdoor play (including water games!). There will be one field trip day at a nearby secondary location, details will be provided after registration. On the field trip day campers will connect with the river through recreation and science activities. A good portion of time at camp will be spent outdoors and in nature, where campers will have the opportunity to stretch their comfort zone. Need-based scholarships to cover costs of the camp are available; please contact our Education and Science Program Lead for more information.

When: June 5-9, 2023; Time: 9am to 3pm (field trip days may be longer)

Who: ages 9 – 12

Where: Strasburg High School

Cost: $85/participant

Description: 

This summer environmental education day camp is offered by Friends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River for ages 9 – 12. During the week campers will learn about large-scale earth processes (watersheds, geology, life cycles, ecosystems and interconnectivity) along with more specific topics relating to trees, soil, agriculture, and water. Learning will occur primarily outdoors and be balanced with camp games and activities (including water games!). There will be two field trip days at secondary locations for campers to explore other facets of the watershed. During field trip days, students will connect with the river through science, exploration, and paddling on the river. A good portion of time at camp will be spent outdoors and in nature, where campers will have the opportunity to stretch their comfort zone.
