A Float Along the North Fork… like no other.

This past Thursday longtime Friends members, John and Ann Marie Cunningham of Falls Church enjoyed a beautiful, sunny float in style down the North Fork in a unique craft design by retired Shenandoah Riverkeeper, veteran guide, and owner of Ashby Gap Adventures, Jeff Kelble, and FNFSR’s Executive Director, Dave Brotman.

Last October, John and Ann Marie competed in lively bidding, and came out winners of this trip which was donated by Ashby Gap Adventures to support Friends at last year’s Fish Fry auction. Kelble led the float in his one-of-a-kind boat, with padded swivel seats all arranged in a social configuration so that guests can enjoy wildlife and scenic views from any position. This was the first time a vessel of this kind ever set out on the North Fork.

Putting in at Strasburg Town Park and taking out at Passage Creek, the four-hour float included an interpretive tour of the history and ecology of the North Fork. But more so, it was an opportunity to simply enjoy the flow of the river, easy conversation, and a serene summer day. The whole group enjoyed the beauty of the North Fork, including sitings of Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, and lots of healthy-looking Smallmouth Bass, Sunfish, and more.

Come join us at our 2020 Fish Fry, on October 4th at Fort Valley Nursery, and bid to win the next trip with Jeff and Dave.
