Friends of the North Fork presents the 2021 Seven Bends Lecture Series, with talks based around the theme of ‘How Water Shapes the Valley’.

“A Geological Odyssey Through Deep Time: Whence Came These Bends?” – The Shenandoah Valley has been forming for the last 600 million years. That development continues today. Join Adjunct Professor at Lord Fairfax Community College and Earth and Environmental Sciences Teacher, Russell Kohrs, in exploring much of this past, as it has set the stage for the most modern phase of the valley’s geological development, the downcutting work of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. We will ponder one important question: how has this deep geological past caused the phenomenal meander bends we see today? Join us on a virtual field trip to a number of sites in the valley that will help us tease out some of the details and answers to this question.
