Workshops are run in partnership with Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation.

March 2020:

Build a Bird or Wildlife House Workshop

When: Wednesday, March 11, 2020; 6:00-7:30 pm

Where: Strasburg High School; Strasburg, Virginia

Cost: $25

Register by: March 4th

Build a bird or wildlife house at this evening workshop being held in partnership with Strasburg High School and Signal Knob Middle School FFA. When registering, please indicate which box you would like to make. Visit www.wildlifecenter.org/nestbox to learn about nest boxes. Choose one of the following: Southern Flying Squirrel Box, Bat Box, or Northern Flicker Box.

Shenandoah Nature Rangers- After School Program

When: Thursdays, March 5, 12,19, 26, 2020; 3:30-5:30 pm

Where:W.W. Robinson Elementary School, Woodstock, Virginia

Cost: $40 for all four days

Register by: February 28th

This environmental education after school program is offered by Friends for the North Fork of the Shenandoah River for rising K-2 graders. It is designed to instill a love of nature through play and hands-on activities, while teaching stewardship and caring for the environment. Students will learn about animals, trees, soil, plants, and water. All students are welcome form public, private or home schooled. Scholarships are available.

April 2020:

River Arts Workshop- Repurposing materials as Useful Objects

When:   Saturday, April 4, 2020; 1:00-3:00 pm

Where: Natural Art Garden Center, Toms Brook

Cost: $25

Register by: March 30th

Go home from this workshop with lots of materials and tons of ideas for standing out in a crowd with unique items that you can make using recycled plastic, fabric, and other items that our society labels as trash. Learn about the amazing ways designers incorporate trash into their products.

Make and Take Natural Dyes from Local Plants Workshop

When:   Saturday, June 13, 2020; 1:00-3:00 pm

Where: Natural Art Garden Center, Toms Brook

Cost: $25 per student

Learn the techniques for making natural dyes using plants that grow in Virginia and near the river. We will also experiment with making dye from river algae.
