Cindy’s Farewell Note

After 12 years at Friends of the North Fork, this is what it’s all about. I became “Mrs. Frenzel” with an exclamation point for an ‘l.’ I taught hundreds of programs to thousands of children. I taught adults and families. I raised the level of environmental literacy in our community. Or at least I hope I did. We are indeed hitched to everything else in the universe, and owe our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains, and all the water there will be, is. So it will always be a never ending task to teach and inspire.

This job has been challenging and it has brought me several of those perfect moments in my life. It has brought me many friends and into a community of people who cherish the Earth and its waters as I do. I often wrote poetry when having a really good day on the river, so i will leave you with this:

I.
Words evade me.
Am.
Water surrounds me.
Here.
I close my eyes and hear life.
The liquid life flows past me.
There’s a fine line between exploring and harassing wild things.
I sit on that line.
Curiosity squeals from me.
Wonder hugs me.
River touches me.
I am alive.
